Director of Student Affairs Shane Hawkins-Wilding leads a team of professionals dedicated to supporting and enhancing the student experience. The Student Affairs team also includes Student Services which provides insight and support with policies and resources.

In this role, DeLeon is responsible for ensuring that students feel engaged with the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences by developing programming that enhances their experiences with JHU communities.

DeLeon joined AAP in October 2023 and brings over 10 years of higher education and student development experience in addition to policy work and advocacy for new majority learners. As a first-generation college graduate, Latina, and daughter of immigrant parents, DeLeon is passionate about giving back to her community and uplifting the next generation of leaders. She thrives when working with learners who need assistance navigating their personal, academic, and career pathways.

DeLeon began her career by assisting with financial-aid literacy education and completion in the Boston area, a role that led her to complete her master’s degree in higher education and human development at the George Washington University and complete a certificate of non-profit management and leadership through Tufts University. Her career includes working with non-profits such as Education Design Lab, uAspire, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, and institutions, including Georgetown Law, Northeastern University, and American University.

Mobley joined the advising team in February 2024, prior to which he served as a first-year adviser for undergraduate education at American University. At American University, he also served as an instructor for the School of Education, teaching the American University Experience I & II courses. Mobley’s career also included time as a student engagement coordinator at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Mobley earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and a Master of Science in higher education leadership and administration from Capella University.

Salazar joined AAP in 2022, prior to which she was an adjunct language instructor at Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. She also has held roles as an ESL instructor for Monterey Adult School, a naturalist for Mount Hermon Outdoor Science School, and an interpreter for California State Parks.

Salazar earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Seattle Pacific University and a master’s degree in teaching English as a second language, with a specialization in international education management, from Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.

As an Academic Adviser, Savice is responsible for building supportive and personalized relationships with students and advising students on university policies and procedures, program and degree requirements, and academic matters.

Savice joined AAP in 2022, prior to which she was a student success adviser for Walden University, where she defined and implemented proactive strategies to help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals. She has worked in higher education for more than 14 years and has held roles as admissions officer in the College of Nursing for Standard Healthcare Services, directory consultant for BloomNet, re-entry coordinator for Florida Career College, and assistant director of admissions for The Art Institute of Jacksonville. She began her career in social services and regularly volunteers in the community.

Savice earned an associate degree in social science from Essex County College, a Bachelor of Arts from Kean University, and a Master of Business Administration from DeVry College of New York.

As an Academic Adviser, Shannon Smith plays a critical role in guiding students through their academic journey. Prior to joining Johns Hopkins in 2024, he served as a student success adviser for Washington, D.C. cohorts at Trinity Washington University and worked as a talent development and inclusion manager at Children’s Law Center in Washington, D.C. Smith spent six years at American University, first as an academic counselor in the College of Arts and Sciences and then as the assistant director of student success and transition in the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. He also served a three-year stint as the assistant director of student activities and Greek affairs at Howard University.

Smith earned his MA in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University and his BA in Psychology from Wake Forest University.
