At Johns Hopkins, Sarah Sowden is an Assistant Program Director and lecturer for the MS in Bioinformatics and MS in Individualized Genomics and Health programs.

Sowden has cultivated a robust academic and professional background in data science. She holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, a Master of Science from Georgetown University School of Medicine, and a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Joseph’s University.

Professionally, Sowden worked for Accenture, where she enhanced decision-making processes across federal and commercial sectors. Her responsibilities included partnering with clients to analyze and interpret data and managing cross-functional teams to integrate advanced analytics tools.

In addition to her role at Accenture, Sowden served as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Data Science at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, teaching Ethical & Legal Issues in Data Science. Her previous experience includes significant roles at The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Food and Drug Administration where she focused on AI/ML applications in healthcare.

Sowden is recognized for her expertise in data science, research administration, and the ethical and legal implications of data practices. Her contributions to her field have been acknowledged through various speaking engagements and publications.
