New Student Checklist
Welcome to the Advanced Academic Programs division of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences!
We are thrilled to welcome you to our community of diverse, talented learners at AAP. Our hope is that through your academic program you will gain the skills and insights to advance your career, grow personally and professionally, and reach your goals. We look forward to partnering with you for your success.
48-72 hours after receiving your decision letter you will be emailed your JHED ID. JHED is a university-wide online directory of students, staff, and faculty. New students need to locate and activate their Login ID. The JHED ID and password give admitted students access to a variety of JHU online resources, including online registration and online library services. If you already have a JHED ID because you are a staff or faculty member at JHU, you will not receive an email. For instructions on activating your JHED, go to this tutorial.
While activating your JHED login, first view your Profile. Be certain to check your Primary location. It should reflect where you plan to take the majority of your classes. Valid responses are Online, Washington D.C. Center, or Homewood Campus.
All AAP students are required to activate their Johns Hopkins University email address. All official communications from AAP and Johns Hopkins University will be sent to this address, including, but not limited to, class assignments, billing information, and emergency notifications. Learn more about setting up your email account.
It is important for the University to have an Emergency Contact for you, in case of emergency. Please enter this information in the SIS. Go to sis.jhu.edu and log in. Hover over the “Personal Information” tab. Emergency Contact is the third option under “Personal Information.” Please complete this information prior to beginning courses at AAP.
View information about obtaining a J-Card.
If you are an international student who has come to the U.S. on a JHU sponsored visa you must complete your visa paperwork with the Office of International Services (OIS). Their email address is [email protected].
View the International Students site for more information.
All entering students are required to provide proof of immunization to the Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC). Please complete all forms for verification of immunization. For health forms and instructions go to Advanced Academic Programs – Primary Care. Once forms have been reviewed and all requirements have been met, the health form hold will be removed. Contact the SHWC at [email protected] with any questions.

The Academic Catalog contains the academic policies under which you are held. The Student Conduct Code covers student and student group/organization misconduct; it does not cover academic misconduct. The AAP Code of Conduct covers academic misconduct, including plagiarism. All students are responsible for knowing and adhering to university policies. Please click here for additional policy information.
Please be sure to look at your academic program requirements on the program website before registering.
If you need help deciding on your first course, email [email protected]. The Office of Advanced Academic Programs Advising can support you with scheduling.
