This summer, Osher instructor Lidia Almidon and several class members met at the “Cuba de Ayer” restaurant in Burtonsville, Maryland for lunch. The group from the “Learn Spanish” Zoom class enjoyed good company and food while spending the afternoon together.

Professor Almidon was impressed with the group’s Spanish and their willingness to practice outside the classroom. “I hope what they learned will serve them in the future, and they’ll keep learning,” she said.

It’s well researched that foreign language learning (and lifelong learning in general) offers benefits like improved cognition, social connections, and overall well-being—all good takeaways no matter what language is spoken.
