Osher at JHU congratulates member Dr. Maurine Beasley on her induction to the Hall of Fame of the University of Maryland’s Phillip Merrill College of Journalism on April 3, 2025.

Beasley’s career at the college spanned four decades. She was the first woman to receive tenure and supervised 27 successful PhD degree recipients.
Author or co-author of eight books on journalism, history, and women in journalism, Beasley participated in and was past president of The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and the American Journalism Historians Association.
An Osher at JHU member since 2005, Beasley has taught journalism courses for fellow-members and herself taken more than 300 courses on wide-ranging subjects—a testament to lifelong learning.
