Join the Johns Hopkins MA in Writing program lecturer Cara Hoffman for a discussion and Q&A with writer and translator Panagiotis Kehagias on his new novel, The Sixth Desert.
Kehagias is an award-winning author, translator, and scholar based in Athens whose debut collection, Final Warning, was shortlisted for five major literary prizes and earned him the moniker “the Greek Borges.” He has translated the work of William Faulkner, Cormac McCarthy, Herman Melville, and many others. An Art Omi and Santa Maddalena Fellow, his second novel, The Sixth Desert, was published in English in fall 2026.
Hoffman is the author of three New York Times Editors’ Choice novels including Running, the feminist classic So Much Pretty and Be Safe I Love You, which was nominated for a Folio Prize. She has written for the New York Times, The Paris Review, Bookforum, The Daily Beast, Rolling Stone, Brooklyn Rail and NPR. A Macdowell Fellow and an Edward Albee Fellow, she and has been a visiting lecturer at Columbia, St. John’s, and Oxford University.
