William Barrier

At Johns Hopkins, William “Bill” A. Barrier is the Program Director for the Business and Regulatory Division of the Center for Biotechnology Education. In his role, he manages the MS in Food Safety Regulation, MS in Regulatory Science, and Master of Biotechnology Enterprise and Entrepreneurship programs and is also a lecturer in these programs.
Barrier is an Institute of Food Technologists board member and chairs the Audit Risk Committee. He has extensive domestic and international experience with major consumer packaged goods companies, quick service restaurants, and ingredient companies, including General Mills, The Pillsbury Company, KFC, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Firmenich, and Pecan Deluxe Candy Company. Barrier has held key leadership positions in food safety quality, product innovation, and business unit management.
Barrier earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Fisk University, a Master of Science in food science, with a microbiology concentration, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a PhD from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
