At Johns Hopkins, Takashi Tsukamoto is a Professor of Neurology and Pharmacology in the School of Medicine and lecturer in MS in Biotechnology program. He serves as the Director of Medicinal Chemistry at Johns Hopkins Drug Discovery. Prior to joining Johns Hopkins in 2009, Tsukamoto held a number of positions of increasing responsibility at Guilford Pharmaceuticals, MGI Pharma, and the Eisai Research Institute. He has served as a lead medicinal chemist in several drug discovery projects, exploring new therapeutics for neurological disorders and cancer. Tsukamoto is the lead inventor of the cytidine deaminase inhibitor, cedazuridine, and its oral combination with decitabine, which received FDA approval as Inqovi in 2020 for the treatment of myelodysplastic syndromes.
