At Johns Hopkins, Shawn Kim is a lecturer for the MS in Biotechnology program.

Combining his roles as a clinician and researcher, Kim operates at the intersection of healthcare and innovation. Previously, he joined Mana Ventures, an early-stage VC firm, where he specialized in identifying and nurturing promising startups in the life sciences and biotech sectors. Currently, his research centers on computational biology and mathematical modeling within biotechnology.

Kim is a dedicated advocate for youth mental health, co-founding dearYou Health to provide AI-driven mental health support for high school and college students. During dental school, he conducted research in biomaterials and healthcare data analytics. He led a project team that published research in the Journal of Dental Education. Additionally, he served as CMO at an early-stage biotech startup, working in molecular diagnostic kits for infectious diseases.

Kim graduated from Boston University in three years under the accelerated dental program, earning BA in biology and psychology. Following his undergraduate education, he received his DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Subsequently, he underwent training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Michigan.
