Sean Raph
Lecturer
At Johns Hopkins, Sean Raph is a lecturer in the MS in Biotechnology program. Raph is a postdoctoral researcher at the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Aging. He has over 10 years of biological research experience in academia and industry, with research interests predominantly in understanding the role of voltage-gated potassium channels in mediating cardiovascular adaptations. Some of the key findings his research has highlighted are: 1) voltage-gated potassium channels regulate coronary blood flow in response to altered cardiac metabolic mediators, 2) multiple metabolic products influence ion channel voltage sensitivity, and 3) sex differences in voltage-gated potassium channel mediated myocardial perfusion after exercise.
He serves as a lecturer in the Center for Biotechnology Education’s Biotechnology Division. His broad background allows him to teach a variety of subjects, but he is most passionate about the opportunity teaching provides to help people become better scientists and leaders.
Raph completed his MS and PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology under the guidance of Dr. Matthew Nystoriak at the University of Louisville.
