As an adjunct faculty lecturer in biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Lisa Selbie brings many years of experience in basic and medical research, project management, consultancy and on-ground and online course development and teaching. Dr. Selbie received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Cell Biology at Northwestern University, investigating the molecular mechanisms of B cell and T cell antigen recognition. Dr. Selbie has held research positions at Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney Australia and Queens Medical School at the University of Nottingham as a Wellcome Trust Research fellow, studying the expression and function of neuropeptide receptors involved in cardiovascular regulation, as well as the development and screening of new therapeutics. Dr. Selbie has over 40 peer-reviewed research publications and held 4 patents.

Since 2001, Dr. Selbie has been an adjunct lecturer in the Advanced Academic MS/MBA Program in Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University. She has developed and delivered on-ground and online courses in advanced cell and molecular biology, molecular pharmacology and stem cell biology, highlighting the impact of current advances in biotechnology, engineering and big data. Students in this program have backgrounds in the biological and chemical sciences as well as experience in the pharmaceutical industry, diagnostics, medicine, patent law, regulatory affairs, and venture capital. Dr. Selbie is also a lecturer with Biotech Primer Inc, a global company providing biotechnology training for the non-scientist. Dr. Selbie has significant experience in learning techniques and tools as well as knowledge of multiple online learning management systems. Dr. Selbie adapts her teaching using relevant approaches both on-ground and in the rapidly progressing online educational environment to meet the needs and expectations of diverse student populations, and has received Excellence in Teaching Award, AAP, Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Selbie has also been a consultant with an Australian management consultancy in the biotechnology and healthcare sectors and been involved in consultancy reviews of national research funding processes and research institute management. Dr. Selbie works with Ausbiotech, Australia’s peak biotechnology industry association, and is a member of the NSW Ausbiotech Committee, supporting information and advocacy for organizations doing business in the global life sciences industry. Dr. Selbie is a non-executive Director and Chair of the Research Advisory Committee for the not-for-profit HeartKids Inc, a national charity supporting individuals with congenital and acquired childhood heart disease.
