At Johns Hopkins, Joe Fassler is the Program Director and a senior lecturer for the MA in Science Writing Program.

He’s the author of two books, Light the Dark: Writers on Creativity, Inspiration, and the Artistic Process, a collection of interviews with leading writers drawing on his “By Heart” series for The Atlantic, and The Sky Was Ours, a novel about climate change, the human dream of flight, and the unexpected consequences of disruptive technology.

Fassler’s reporting on science and technology has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Guardian, Fast Company, Smithsonian, and Wired, among other publications. His journalism has received support through fellowships from The University of California, Berkeley, The City University of New York’s Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, and The University of Colorado, Boulder.

He holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and a BA in English from Cornell University.
