At Johns Hopkins, Itai Shapira serves as a lecturer in the MS Intelligence Analysis program. A retired colonel from the Israeli Defense Intelligence, Shapira brings more than 25 years of service as an intelligence officer and manager at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels to his teaching.

Among his positions, Shapira served as the Deputy Head of Analysis in Israeli Defense Intelligence and as the Head of the Red Team Department. He is a frequent publisher of professional and academic articles on matters of strategic culture, intelligence culture, national security, and defense. He also works in the private sector conducting strategic intelligence research. Shapira earned his PhD at the University of Leicester, studying Israeli national intelligence culture, which is the topic of his first book, Israeli National Intelligence Culture (Routledge 2024).
