At Johns Hopkins, Greg Stevens is a lecturer in the MA in Museum Studies program where he has taught since 2017.

As the founding principal of Purple Cow Career and Talent Development, LLC, Stevens has found his calling in empowering individuals to navigate their professional journeys with confidence and creativity. His specialties include teaching and facilitation on various platforms, career coaching, program development and curriculum design, and writing on career themes.

In this capacity, Stevens has provided more than 1,200 professional career coaching hours to over 150 clients from the museum, non-profit, education, and corporate sectors. From 2018-2023, he directed the MA in Museum Professions program at Seton Hall University, preparing students for careers in museums, with an emphasis on building core competencies and specialist skills. He also served as associate director of the SHU McBride Leadership Center/Buccino Leadership Institute, working with high-performing undergraduate students across the College of Communication and the Arts. Previously, at the American Alliance of Museums from 2007-2017, Stevens directed the professional development program focused on leadership, management, and career development that reached more than 40,000 colleagues and 2,500 institutions, including the field’s premier online professional education series, the highly-rated Career Café at the AAM Annual Meeting, and the multi-year International Leadership program sponsored by the Getty Foundation.

Stevens recently co-edited (with Lotte Lent) Museum Change Agents Making the World a Better Place (2024, The George Washington University), and previously co-edited (with Wendy Luke) A Life in Museums: Managing Your Museum Career (2012, The AAM Press). He has written numerous articles, essays, and book chapters on museum practice, and regularly facilitates seminars, webinars, and workshops on career topics. His forthcoming career handbook, set to be published by Rowman & Littlefield, encapsulates his insights and strategies for career advancement in the cultural sector.

Stevens earned his MAT in Museum Education from The George Washington University, and his BA in Theatre Design from San Diego State University.
