At Johns Hopkins, Gabrielle “Gabby” Sturgeon is a lecturer for the MA in Film and Media program.

Sturgeon is a professional sound mixer, boom operator and utility technician. Her career began in independent features, which fostered a lifelong appreciation for the art and challenge of filmmaking, and an understanding of the diverse needs of each project.

Sturgeon has worked as a boom operator and utility sound technician on several recent episodic television series, including We Own This City from acclaimed writer/producer David Simon (HBO), The Lady in the Lake from award-winning director Alma Har’el, starring Natalie Portman (Apple TV), and Lioness from creator/director Taylor Sheridan (of Yellowstone fame), starring Zoe Saldana and Nicole Kidman (Paramount Plus).

Sturgeon continues to work in multiple genres, including documentaries, ENG, live production, short form, and commercials. Some of her documentary credits include Becoming Annika, Stories of a Generation with Pope Francis, Battleground, and The Long Game: Bigger Than Basketball.

Sturgeon is a member of the IATSE Local 487 and a proud union technician, and a graduate of Stevenson University.
