Deanna Ferrell
Lecturer
Deanna Ferrell (formerly McCool) teaches in the MA in Science Writing program. A former newspaper reporter, she worked in public relations at an agency that promoted conservation initiatives, and later ran her own business writing instructions and creating patterns for the sewing and crafting industry. Because of a strong interest in science, she enrolled in and graduated from the MA in Science Writing Program–25 years after graduating with her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. She is currently a senior assistant marketing communications director in the College of Science at the University of Notre Dame, where she also teaches an undergraduate class in science communications.
An award-winning writer, Deanna’s science essay, Total Eclipse, was published in Best American Science and Nature Writing 2020.
