Ajay Vishwakarma
Lecturer
At Johns Hopkins, Ajay Vishwakarma is a lecturer for the Master of Biotechnology Enterprise and Entrepreneurship and the MS in Biotechnology programs.
Vishwakarma, DMD, MSc, MBA is a Harvard-trained research scientist, and a dynamic entrepreneur dedicated to commercializing advanced cell and gene therapies. He is the Founding CEO of Cell BioEngines Inc., a clinical-stage biotech company developing allogenic ‘off-the-shelf’ cell-based therapies for human disease treatment.
Notably, Vishwakarma’s doctoral and postdoctoral work conducted at Harvard Medical School and MIT has led to the identification of unique immune cell populations and genomic signatures within tumor tissues, shedding light on the complex interplay between the immune system and cancer progression. Additionally, his discoveries have paved the way for novel immuno-modulatory biomaterials aimed at controlling immune cell phenotypes and enhancing tissue repair.
Vishwakarma holds a doctor’s degree, master’s degree in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine from Cardiff University, UK and MBA in Finance from University of Massachusetts Boston further enhancing his ability to navigate the complex landscape of biotechnology entrepreneurship. He previously led Cell Analysis New England Division of Agilent Technologies (NYSE: A) for cell and gene therapy product development.
Vishwakarma has made significant contributions to scientific research, particularly in molecular cell biology, biomaterials and tissue engineering, immune-engineering, and systems biology. His research papers published in reputable journals, and comprehensive textbooks on stem cell biology and bioengineering has garnered attention for its groundbreaking insights into cancer immunotherapy and regenerative medicine.
