Gregory V. Cox joined the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) in 2010 where he is currently in the Information Technology & Systems Division, with principal sponsors in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Before joining IDA, he served for 21 years with the Center for Naval Analyses (CNA), including 4 years as a deputy division director. In addition to conducting Washington-based research, Dr. Cox spent ten of those 21 years in assignments with seven Navy and Joint Commands (U.S. and Europe). His diverse analytical assignments have spanned the spectrum from operations, to planning and policy, to readiness and training, to test and evaluation, to requirements and resources. Prior to CNA, he held positions in other national security organizations: The Aerospace Corporation, Analytic Services, TRW, and Tracor Aerospace.

A mathematician by education, he received his PhD from Auburn University in 1978. In addition to teaching at Johns Hopkins, he has held academic positions at Chelsea College London, Western Illinois University, University of Texas (Austin), and Naval Postgraduate School.

Dr. Cox has twice received Superior Service awards from the Navy and received CNA’s annual Phil E. DePoy award for analytic excellence.
