Barry Zulauf

At Johns Hopkins, Barry Zulauf is a lecturer for the MS in Intelligence Analysis program.

In addition to his work at Johns Hopkins, Zulauf is a faculty member for Georgetown, James Madison, Indiana, and Mercyhurst universities. He also is president of the International Association for Intelligence Education.

As of August 2023, Zulauf is the Defense Intelligence Officer for Counternarcotics, Transnational Organized Crime, and Threat Finance. He was named in June 2022 as the Director of National Intelligence’s representative at CIA’s Center for the Study of Intelligence. Zulauf spent 2021 to 22 as a Recanati-Kaplan Intelligence Fellow at Harvard University. He has previous service as an intelligence senior leader with the Drug Enforcement Administration and Naval Intelligence.

Zulauf was selected by DNI Clapper as the first ODNI Chair on the faculty of the National Intelligence University from 2012 to 2015. He is a retired Naval Intelligence officer, with a combat tour in Afghanistan (2007 to 2008).

Zulauf earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from Wittenberg University, a Master of Science in strategic intelligence from National Intelligence University, and a PhD in international relations and comparative politics from Indiana University Bloomington.
