Student Health Insurance
We highly recommend that all AAP students maintain adequate health insurance coverage to provide protection against unexpected accidents and illnesses.
Domestic Students
Our domestic students are not required to have health insurance. However, if they are enrolled with full-time status, defined as taking at least three courses per semester, they have the option to purchase a Wellfleet health insurance plan sponsored by Johns Hopkins University at their own expense. It’s important to note that since there is no health insurance mandate, students cannot use Federal Student Aid (e.g., loans) to cover the cost of this health insurance plan.
International Students with Visa Status
All International Students here on an F-1/J-1 Visa are required to purchase the university-sponsored student health benefits plan with Wellfleet and therefore will be automatically enrolled with an effective date of August 15. New Spring F-1/J-1 Visa students will have an effective date of January 1.
Medical care in the United States is very expensive. In the event of an unexpected accident requiring professional care, the JHU university-student-sponsored health benefits plan will make the experience less stressful.
Important Information about Enrolling in the Wellfleet Plan
Fall open-enrollment for the academic year will begin July 1 and close on September 15. All full-time students will be eligible to enroll for the Fall semester with an effective date of August 15. If enrolled for the Fall semester, you will be automatically renewed for the Spring semester effective January 1 – August 14, provided you remain in a full-time status (registered for 3 or more courses) for the Spring semester.
Open enrollment for new Spring AAP students begins on December 1 and ends February 10 with an effective date of January 1.
How to Enroll
New Fall AAP students interested in enrolling in the university plan may self-enroll yourself and your eligible dependents online via the Academic Health Plans (AHP) portal.
