Stories That Matter presents a special screening of the Academy Award-winning documentary, followed by a director Q&A and Peabody performance.

Trailblazing double bassist Orin O’Brien was never one to seek the spotlight, but when Leonard Bernstein hired her in 1966 as the first female musician in the New York Philharmonic, she inevitably became the focus of media attention and, ultimately, one of the most renowned musicians of a generation.

“The Only Girl in the Orchestra” is a window into the trailblazing life of a low-key musical legend. Through intimate storytelling and archival footage, the documentary celebrates Orin’s quiet strength, musical brilliance, and enduring legacy as a mentor and artist.
