At Johns Hopkins, Michael Truong is a lecturer for the MS in Organizational Leadership program.

With over 20 years of experience, he has established and scaled academic and digital initiatives across public, private, and start-up higher education institutions. He has led the founding of various educational ventures, including a research university, a business/IT school, a university innovation alliance, a teaching-learning center, a writing program, an educational technology office, and most recently, an AI education consulting firm.

Truong’s expertise lies in higher education innovations, with a focus on faculty development, online/blended learning, and emerging technologies. He firmly believes in AI’s transformative power in education to drive human flourishing and foster substantive change. He has led AI initiatives, equipping faculty with the tools to integrate AI into teaching, research, and administration effectively and ethically.

Truong’s passion for international higher education development is reflected in over a decade of consulting with institutions in Asia on digital learning and emerging technology projects. He served as a U.S. Fulbright Specialist in Vietnam from 2018-2024 and recently contributed to USAID projects focused on reforming higher education in Vietnam. He has also served as a co-principal investigator on grant-funded AI research projects, gaining a deep understanding of AI’s practical applications and ethical considerations in education.

Truong received his PhD in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, San Diego, with his dissertation focusing on the socioeconomic plight and self-reliance narratives of Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Hmong Americans.
