At Johns Hopkins, Matthew Palumbo is a lecturer in the MA in Communication program as an expert in persuasive communication. Palumbo’s messaging work has run the gamut from individual meetings with members of Congress to major outreach campaigns. He has been a speechwriter for association executives, government agency leadership, and Oscar-winning songwriters. His commentary has been published in the Journal of Technology and Innovation.

Palumbo’s career spans work in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors on behalf of organizations with interests in health, advanced technology, education, public transportation, and intellectual property, as well as major charity campaigns. Palumbo has gained recognition for record-breaking promotions of the National Medal Technology and Innovation, awarded by the President of the United States. He has also promoted The Patents for Humanity Award, presented to innovators who take on global humanitarian challenges, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s flagship program, Invention-con, for independent innovators.

In his spare time, Palumbo is a songwriter and a student of history and language. His favorite communication advice comes from P.T. Barnum: “Every crowd has a silver lining.”

Palumbo earned his BA in history from Tufts University and his MBA from American University’s Kogod School of Business. He is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma business honors society.
