Kerr Houston has taught at Johns Hopkins in a part-time role since 2015; his full-time position, however, is as a professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where he has taught since 2002. He is the author of a number of published articles on modern and contemporary art, and of dozens of reviews on recent exhibitions and developments in the contemporary art world; for a sampling of some of his writings, please visit his Academia page. He has also written two books (on art criticism and on the place of the viewer in early art historical discourse) and regularly teaches and writes on Italian Renaissance art and art criticism.
