Dr. Lyle completed his PhD at Duquesne University in Communication and Rhetorical Studies, and his primary academic interests relate to the study of argumentation and debate, rhetoric, and political communication. His dissertation “The Rhetoric of Parody and Persona: The Rhetorical Construction of Donald Trump Through Parody in the 2016 Election,” examined the relationship between Trump’s electability and the coverage he received on late-night comedic programming on television.
Prior to completing his doctorate, Jim earned an MA in Communication from Wake Forest University and a bachelor’s in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Additionally, Jim has spent a number of years teaching and coaching debate at the collegiate level and has coached multiple teams to American Debate Association national championships as well as numerous other individual and team awards.
