Israel Igualate
Lecturer
At Johns Hopkins, Israel Igualate is lecturer in the MA in Communication program where he brings experience from a career spanning journalism, speechwriting, and strategic communications. His expertise lies in crafting compelling narratives. Currently, he is the Communications Director for BJC.
Influenced by the writing of Ernest Hemingway, after graduate school Igualate pivoted into journalism, where he served as a producer and writer for NHK, the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation. In this role, he traveled across North America to produce in-depth news segments, bringing critical global and domestic issues to a wide audience.
Transitioning into speechwriting, Igualate became Executive Speechwriter for California Attorney General Xavier Becerra in July 2020. Six months later, he was appointed to the Biden Administration as Deputy Director of Speechwriting at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), later becoming Director of Speechwriting at the U.S. Department of Labor.
He holds a MA in national security studies from California State University, San Bernardino, where he also earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and communications. As part of his professional development, he participated in the Intelligence Community Centers for Academic Excellence (IC CAE) program and completed Climate Reality Leadership Corps training in Rome, Italy.
