Firmin DeBrabander is professor of Philosophy at the Maryland Institute College of Art. His specialties include Philosophy of Religion, Aesthetics, Ethics, the History of Philosophy and Political Philosophy. He is the author of two books, Spinoza and the Stoics (Continuum Press, 2007) and Do Guns Make us Free? Democracy and the Armed Society (Yale University Press, 2015), and is currently working on a manuscript on the topic of Privacy in the Digital Age. He has written social and political commentary for a variety of national publications, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, the LA Times, The Chicago Tribune, the Atlantic, the New Republic and Salon.
