Brian Simpson

Brian W. Simpson is editorial director at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is editor-in-chief of the news website and daily newsletter Global Health NOW and Hopkins Bloomberg Public Health magazine. Under his direction, the magazine has won numerous awards, including the Robert F. Kennedy College Journalism Award. Simpson has written stories on everything from the development of the polio vaccine and the influence of Islam on public health, to the malaria parasite’s lifecycle. His work has appeared in Smithsonian.com, NPR.com, The Baltimore Sun, Johns Hopkins Magazine, and other publications.
Simpson is a co-director of the R3 Science Communications Leadership Program at the Bloomberg School and a faculty associate in the Department of Health Policy and Management. He is a lecturer in Advanced Academic Programs at Johns Hopkins University, where he teaches graduate science writing courses.
He earned a Master of Arts from the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins and a Master of Public Health from the Bloomberg School.
