Andrew Chapkowski is a software engineer at Esri. He works on and it the lead developer for the ArcGIS API for Python. He has over 15 years of experience with IT, software development and GIS. He has worked in the fields of agriculture, emergency management, AI, data mining, and defense.

Over the years working at Esri, he has assisted in projects like the Ebola outbreak with the World Health Organization (WHO), hurricane disaster relief, international earthquake disaster support, and many other projects. During his whole tenure, he’s guided and coached many in Python as a scripting language for GIS, as well as general cutting-edge GIS practices.

Andrew has a MS from NW Missouri State University in GeoScience. His research focused on the effectiveness of natural bio-control agents on plant pests. Andrew’s undergraduate degree is from Stockton University where he majored in environmental studies and minored in mathematics. Andrew is an advocate for learning and pushing the boundaries of what GIS can do.
