A student can have one or more holds on their SIS account. These holds usually prevent a student from registering for courses, receiving their diploma, etc. These holds cannot be removed by the student; they can only be removed by the office that placed the hold. For guidance on how to resolve a hold on your account, please review the following:

Financial Holds

For questions on financial holds, please contact the Student Accounts Office through SEAM.

Advisory Holds

For questions on advisory holds, please review the information below:

The advisory hold is applied once you have registered for two courses more than are required to complete your degree. The advisory hold requires you to connect with your advisor to select courses that meet your degree requirements. This hold is designed to ensure that you stay on track and graduate in a timely fashion.

There is no way to remove the hold; however, it does not impact graduation. It only prevents future registration, to ensure that you do not register for unnecessary classes. Students with advisory holds need permission from a faculty advisor to add or switch classes to ensure they are registering for courses needed for degree completion.

  • If you have financial aid or a student visa, please consult with your financial aid provider about taking the additional course(s).
  • If you have a student visa, please consult with the Office of International Services about taking the additional course(s).

Contact your faculty advisor by email to request approval to add or switch courses. Please CC your academic adviser in this email.

Submit the Add/Drop Form with your faculty advisor’s approval in the form after registration opens.
