Nicolette Smith
Director of Faculty and Academic Affairs, Lecturer
At Johns Hopkins, Nicolette Smith serves as the director of faculty and academic affairs and as a lecturer in the MS in Organizational Leadership program. Her leadership responsibilities include representing the interests of AAP’s programs within the university, collaborating with faculty on curriculum and assessment efforts, working with Human Resources and Finance on all faculty-related processes, participating in faculty hiring and onboarding, and facilitating changes to AAP policy and procedures through the Policy and Curriculum committees.
Drawing on her background in philosophy and education, and with a focus on ensuring that young minds find answers to life’s burning questions, Smith has taught a variety of college courses on topics ranging from gender and African American studies, ethics, and logic to literature and world religion.
Smith joined AAP in November 2022 as the assistant director of assessment. Her experience in higher education began in 2011 at the University of Arkansas, where she taught philosophy and gender studies and served as an academic adviser for the general education program. In 2013, she became chair of the Department of Philosophy, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Languages. She also chaired the academic operations committee, with a focus on policy improvements across the college. She later served under the Provost’s Office as the university assessment coordinator and chaired the academic assessment committee. Additionally, she assisted in accreditation efforts, catalog reorganization, and curriculum development.
Smith earned a BA in philosophy and an MEd from the University of Arkansas. She also completed coursework in liberal and integrative studies at the University of Illinois.
