Susan McCallum Smith

Susan McCallum Smith writes fiction, essays, and reviews. She has received a Pushcart Prize, a Creative Writing Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Walter Sullivan Prize, Yaddo Fellowships, and recognition by Best American Essays.

Her fiction and personal essays have been published by Agni, The Southern Review, The Sewanee Review, Fifth Wednesday Journal and The Gettysburg Review, and her reviews have appeared in the Los Angeles Review of Books, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Dublin Review of Books, and the Scottish Review of Books. While living in Baltimore, she wrote a book column for Urbanite magazine, and occasionally contributed to WYPR Maryland Public Radio.

She has post-graduate degrees from both the Bennington Writing Seminars (MFA) and the Johns Hopkins Writing Program (M.A.). As an undergraduate in Scotland, where she was born and raised, she studied film, television, and theatre at Glasgow University (B.A.). Her non-fiction book, The Watermark, is forthcoming from Viking UK (Penguin Random House).
