Rapidly Building for Resilience: WebGIS Solutions for Real World Demands
Event Actions
How can curated spatial intelligence help solve urgent, real-world challenges? Join Rachel Isaacs, program coordinator of the MS in Geographic Information Systems program, for a conversation with Amanda Miner, director of resilience and infrastructure at Envicom Corporation.
Drawing on her experience across the public and private sectors on four continents, Miner will explore how WebGIS solutions support natural resource management, humanitarian efforts, disaster response, and resilience planning for communities and organizations facing climate and weather, urban planning, supply chain, and other challenges.
After replicating a ground-breaking study on defensible space needs and structural survival, damage, or loss during fire events for the Wildfire Ecology division of the National Park Service, Miner moved to her current company as a GIS analyst and manager where she oversaw multiple international water-related GIS projects. In her current capacity, she supports efforts to utilize GIS to combat challenges for water resilience and urban forestry. Miner earned a BA in Museum & Exhibition Design from the University of Lincoln, an MS in Natural Resources from Virginia Tech University, and an MS in GIS from Johns Hopkins University.
