Holzhacker, earning a Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management degree from Johns Hopkins University Advanced Academic Programs was more than just a career move — it was the catalyst that turned her passion for animal-assisted wellness into a full-fledged nonprofit organization.

Holzhacker, 29, graduated from AAP in December 2022, completing her studies online before walking in the May 2023 master’s degree ceremony at the university’s picturesque Homewood campus in Baltimore.

“Obtaining my master’s in NGO/Nonprofit Management at Johns Hopkins University was the best decision and investment I have made,” she said. “The experienced and dedicated faculty are well-respected leaders who deliver top-tier coursework in the field.”

That academic foundation, paired with a drive to give back, inspired Holzhacker to establish Impact Horse – Connecting Humans and Horses, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Southern Maine that provides equine-assisted learning and therapy visits with miniature horses to nursing homes, hospitals, and healthcare facilities.

“Impact Horse was born out of my capstone project and a corresponding 46-page research paper,” she said. “I’m proud to combine my dedication to animal care advocacy, nonprofit leadership, and community wellness through this work.”

Holzhacker’s decision to attend Johns Hopkins was driven by the program’s academic rigor and professional development opportunities, including the Life Design Lab and networking events in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. She also participates in the OneHop mentoring network, connecting with prospective students who want to learn more about the program.

“I chose nonprofit management because of my desire to give back, make an impact, and grow professionally in the sector,” she said. “I am so blessed and grateful for the amazing experience. Forever a Blue Jay! Go Hop!”

In addition to founding her organization, Holzhacker was recently featured in Bold Journey Magazine and invited to speak on Gina Gardiner’s International Leadership Podcast and Radio Show.

With a master’s degree in hand and a growing organization making a difference in her community, Holzhacker is bettering lives — one miniature hoofprint at a time.

“I am equipped to continue my work in the nonprofit sector thanks to Johns Hopkins,” she said. “I look forward to making even greater strides. Gallop on!”
