Nick Maneno

Nick Maneno is a former Co-Director of the Northern Virginia Writing Project, an affiliate of the National Writing Project. He has been a Teacher-Consultant with the NVWP since 2002. He currently teaches fifth grade general education students in Prince William County at Old Bridge Elementary School. Nick has taught in public schools since 1999. He has presented at local, regional, state, and national conferences on many writing-related topics including being the keynote speaker on Writing Across the Curriculum. In addition to teaching at Johns Hopkins, Nick is an adjunct instructor at George Mason University where he has taught the NVWP in-service course Writing and Learning Across the Curriculum since 2005.

Nick graduated summa cum laude from George Mason University in 1997 and earned a Master of Education Degree from GMU in 1999. He has twice achieved National Board Certification and has been nominated for the Washington Post’s Agnes Myer Teacher of the Year.

Nick writes poetry and prose. Occasionally something may even find publication like the article Teaching After the Summer Institute published in The Voice of the National Writing Project. He is currently working on a novel, which he has found to be a lot like running an ultra-marathon. He is still a very long way from the finish line. Nick lives in Springfield, Virginia with his family.
