Donald Jones

Dr. Jones was Director of US/ICOMOS (US National Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites) from 2011 to 2014 and Director of Programs for nine years before that. US/ICOMOS is non-governmental organization part of a world-wide network of preservation professionals. Dr. Jones was responsible for the international exchange program, symposium, membership, and other activities.
Previously, Dr. Jones was Assistant Director of the Center for Heritage Resource Studies at the University of Maryland, and a Faculty Research Associate with the Department of Anthropology. There he assisted with graduate-level and professional development programs, including a graduate course with the Ename Center for Public Archaeology and Heritage Presentation in Belgium and a professional training program for the National Park Service (Archeology and Ethnography program).
Dr. Jones has worked in the international tourism industry and with the Save Xiling Foundation assisting with preservation of the Western Qing Tombs, a World Heritage Site at Xiling.
His research interests include international development, heritage tourism, cultural landscapes, and history of preservation and environmentalism and currently is owner of the International Heritage News Network.
Dr. Jones holds a PhD and MA in Archaeological Studies (Boston University) and a BA in Anthropology (College of William and Mary).
