At Johns Hopkins, Amber Lively is a lecturer for the MS in Environmental Sciences and Policy program.

Lively has written articles for sustainability and climate action newsletters, actively participates in conservation education efforts, and has served in executive leadership positions for conservation and sustainability-focused organizations.

With experience that includes resource mapping (GIS), grants writing, sustainability consultation, and project management, Lively currently works for the Big Sioux River Project as the Watershed Project Manager and serves as the executive director. She also is the founder of the sustainability-focused non-profit Building Sustainable Connections. Through her work, she seeks to encourage sustainable actions and resource conservation in our communities.

Lively studied political science and business at the University of Iowa and, following her service in the National Guard, received a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary science (environmental science, GIS, and communications) from South Dakota State University. She focused her undergraduate thesis on communicating drivers of land use and land cover change. She holds a Master of Science in environmental science and policy and a graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems from Johns Hopkins University.
