At Johns Hopkins, Amir Poudel is a lecturer for the MS in Environmental Sciences and Policy program.

Mr. Poudel has been working in the areas of natural resources management with specific experience in public policy formulation, project planning, undertaking surveys, carrying out monitoring and evaluations. His major focus has been on agriculture, water security, local governance, climate change adaptation, livelihood promotion, community development and sustainability among others. He has worked in diverse socio-cultural settings and has engaged with wide range of actors from policy makers to local communities.

Currently working with WaterAid Nepal to undertake a regional ground water security governance assessment with experts from Bangladesh, India, Ghana and Tanzania; Mr. Poudel has in the past provided technical services to the Government of Nepal, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Department of International Development (DFID), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Oxfam, CARE, The World Food Programme (WFP) among others. Very recently he worked as the climate change and environmental experts during the country review of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-2) on Food and Nutrition Security.

Based in Kathmandu, his main interests include teaching and providing consulting services to national and international research and development agencies. He holds Masters degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins University and was recently awarded a certificate in ‘Summer Program in Economics’ from the University of Philippines, Los Banos, Laguna. He has been teaching at ESP since 2009 and has been running the onsite Nepal course on ‘Climate Change and Development in Nepal’ since 2015.
