SUMMARY:Sustainable Solutions: The Strait of Hormuz & Climate Action
DESCRIPTION:As a critical route for oil and natural gas\, disruption in the Strait could raise energy prices\, expose vulnerabilities in fossil fuel-dependent economies\, and intensify energy security concerns. The panel will explore how these pressures may affect investment in solar\, wind\, and battery storage; the short- and long-term climate consequences; and the ways geopolitics can reshape energy policy and the path toward a low-carbon future. Attendees will gain insight into the connections among energy security\, global markets\, renewable energy\, and climate action. \nAbout Our Speakers\nAndrei Covatariu is an international energy and climate change expert focused on the geopolitical\, economic\, and social dimensions of the energy transition. He serves as a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center and a Nonresident Fellow at the Payne Institute for Public Policy. He also holds leadership and advisory roles with GLOBSEC\, the Middle East Institute\, Energy Policy Group\, the Climate and Water Initiative\, UNECE\, and the OECD’s Nuclear Energy Agency. \nChristopher Day is a lecturer in the MS in Energy Policy and Climate program at Johns Hopkins with experience in energy\, finance\, consulting\, academia\, and government. He has worked on international energy projects\, advised the World Bank\, led intelligence teams at the U.S. Department of Energy\, and held energy leadership roles at ABN AMRO and Enron. Day holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School\, Johns Hopkins SAIS\, and Georgetown University. \nLearn about JHU’s MS in Environmental Sciences and Policy and MS in Energy Policy and Climate programs.
