SUMMARY:GIS After Dark: Mapping for Justice
DESCRIPTION:Since joining WE ACT for Environmental Justice in the fall of 2022\, Salgado has led the organization’s federal-level data analysis efforts\, using research and analytical tools to support data-driven policy and advocacy. His work examines environmental justice mapping tools\, evaluates the potential impacts of proposed environmental rules and regulations\, and analyzes public opinion on environmental justice policies and concerns. He also develops environmental justice datasets and creates scientific tools\, including maps\, that reveal the intersections of race\, environmental challenges\, public opinion\, and federal policies and programs. \nSalgado is completing a PhD in Geography at Texas A&M University where his research focuses on remote sensing\, snow hydrology\, and atmospheric science. His graduate research includes using small unmanned aerial systems to develop high resolution 3D models of alpine snow surfaces\, satellite imagery to analyze permafrost and glaciers\, and a mobile chamber to investigate secondary organic aerosol nucleation and growth. Salgado is a member of the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native American Scientists and the American Geophysical Union. \nLearn about JHU’s MS in Geographic Information Systems program.
