Homewood Campus

Situated in Baltimore, MD, the beautiful and sprawling Homewood campus is home to Johns Hopkins University’s Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. Administrative Office

The administrative office for the Center for Biotechnology Education is located on the 6th floor of the Wyman Park Building on the Homewood campus in Baltimore, MD. This office space provides an ideal location to coordinate the Center’s initiatives, and to network with senior administrators and faculty on the Homewood campus.

Montgomery County Campus

The Center for Biotechnology Education includes a state of the art laboratory for training master’s students and for workshops at the Montgomery County Campus in Rockville, MD. The Center has a dedicated computer laboratory for Bioinformatics workshops and training. In addition, the Center also has an office to serve the community and facilitate classes and workshops.

Students learn the technical skills required to be competitive in this dynamic field of biotechnology. The laboratory is equipped with:

  • High throughput liquid handling robots
  • 1 high throughput nucleic acid isolation robot
  • Numerous thermocycling machines, including real-time capability.
  • Various electrophoretic devices for nucleic acid and protein analyses

The lab is equipped with a variety of spectrophotometers, a capillary electrophoresis unit for DNA and protein analysis, a computerized gel image analyzer, cell culture fermentation units and more. The Center’s lab has an adjoining cell culture suite with biological-safety cabinets, incubators, freezers, and refrigerators. In addition, the suite contains:

  • Inverted microscopes
  • Biosafety cabinets
  • An Olympus IX70 fluorescence microscope
  • Automatic cell counting instrument

Computer Lab

The Montgomery County Campus’ Academic and Research Building houses a student computer lab that contains 24 state-of-the-art networked computer workstations that provide full access to Johns Hopkins University’s online resources.

Student Café Lounge

Students can relax, recharge with food and beverages, and socialize in the Food for Thought Café. The cafe lounge is located on the ground floor of the Academic and Research Building and serves sandwiches, soups, and fruits in the early evening hours Monday through Thursday and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Online Education

The MS in Biotechnology, MS in Bioinformatics, MS in Regulatory Science, and MS in Biotechnology Enterprise and Entrepreneurship are all offered fully online.
