Shawn Ghuman, Adjunct Faculty
Shawn S. Ghuman is a founding member and the Communications Director of the National Sikh Campaign, a nonprofit aimed at improving the awareness and perception of the Sikh religion in America. In this role, he directs all internal and external marketing communication efforts, including the development and execution of the successful We Are Sikhs awareness campaign, winner of PRWeek’s 2018 “Best for a Cause” Award.
In addition to being a lecturer in the MA in Communication program at Johns Hopkins University, where he teaches classes in Media Relations and Integrated Marketing Communications, Shawn instructs workshops and bootcamps on social media strategy and data analytics at General Assembly’s Seattle campus. He also is the PR Director for Learn Bhangra, a dance and fitness company dedicated to bringing this South Asian folk dance to everyone, and coaches his own bhangra class in Seattle.
Shawn began his career at Ketchum, a leading global marketing communications agency, in their D.C office, rising from an entry-level account coordinator to Media & Content Strategist, a role developed in conjunction with company leadership to better liaise between traditional public relations and digital teams. He played a key role in multiple industry award-winning campaigns, including Aspen Dental’s Healthy Mouth Movement and Adapt Pharma’s Narcan, and was selected to serve on Ketchum’s inaugural, 10-member Break Through Advisory Board, working with the company’s CEO to drive innovations globally including improving and expanding internal and external programs on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
