Karen Wells, Faculty, Sr. Lecturer

Karen Wells is a Senior Lecturer in the Center for Biotechnology Education. She has taught with the Biotechnology program since 1999, with a primary focus on online education since 2003. Her research and educational interests include cell biology, protein biochemistry, molecular physiology & disease, and neuroscience. She received her PhD in Physiology and Pharmacology from Emory University in 1997 and then completed an American Heart Association post-doctoral research fellowship in the Department of Physiology at Johns Hopkins Medical Institute in 2000. Her post-graduate research focused on membrane transport proteins and neurotransmitter receptors.

Dr. Wells is a career educator. Over the past three decades, she has been involved in teaching the biosciences at a variety of institutions of higher learning, including Johns Hopkins University, University of Georgia, Emory University, and Illinois Central College. She is a VoiceThread Certified Educator. In 2003 she received an Excellence in Teaching award from the Advanced Academic Program in Biotechnology.
