Christopher Van Wyk, Adjunct Faculty

Christopher Van Wyk is a faculty member in the Environmental Sciences and Policy program. He currently serves as the Director of the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Office of Human and Natural Environment. In that role, he leads a team of 7 permanent staff and 10 contractors in developing new regulations and guidance related to the environmental review of transit projects and in providing technical assistance, training, and guidance to FTA’s other offices, especially its 10 regional offices. Mr. Van Wyk previously served as a staff attorney in FTA’s Office of Chief Counsel handling federal court litigation, rulemaking, and legal assistance on environmental reviews, historic preservation, transportation planning, and FTA’s major capital investment program. Prior to joining FTA, Mr. Van Wyk worked for an boutique energy law firm, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Administrative Law Judges, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Mr. Van Wyk earned his law degree and masters degree from Georgetown University, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Georgetown International Environmental Law Review.
