Alexandra Tan, Program Director, Sr. Lecturer
Alexandra Tan is the Founder and Director of the Post-Baccalaureate Health Science Intensive (HSI) program at Johns Hopkins Advanced Academic Programs. Additionally, she is Director of the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program at Hopkins. Previously, she was Director of the Post-Baccalaureate Health Professions Program at the University of California Berkeley, Extension.
Dr. Tan received her PhD in Biology from Johns Hopkins University, focusing on membrane protein association. Her education laid the foundation for turning a critical eye to her current field: pre-medical advising. Through her data-driven and analytical approach, she has been working to identify objective predictors of success in the medical school admissions process and develop tangible steps that help students achieve that success.The results are heavily featured in the unique curricular approach of the HSI Program.
Additionally, she plays an active role in the national conversations on medical school admissions and pre-health/post-baccalaureate education through multiple leadership roles with the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions, including serving as co-chair for one national and two regional conferences, the regional Executive Board and as a contributing writer for the Health Professions Admissions Guide (11th ed). Dr. Tan is currently focused on spearheading multiple projects that represent novel work in this field/organization.
