Communication | Welcome

Congratulations and welcome to the Johns Hopkins University MA in Communication Program. As a new member of the Hopkins community, you will be joining a long tradition of academic excellence. Please follow these steps to become a Johns Hopkins University student.

  1. Go through the New Student Orientation.
  2. Review the MA in Communication Student Handbook. (If you are pursuing the MA in Communication/MBA degree, note that any curriculum information applies only to the MA in Communication program.  Also view the requirements for the MBA program.)
  3. If you are under the age of 26, fill out the Immunization Form.
  4. If you are an international student, check in with the Office of International Services.
  5. If necessary, review our financial aid information.  If you have any questions about financial aid, contact your financial aid advisor by going to this website; then scroll to the table, look under the “AAP” column, and search for the person who corresponds with the first letter of your last name.
  6. Register for classes.  Registering for courses signals your acceptance of this offer of admission.  You must take 480.600 Research and Writing Methods in your first semester of the MA in Communication program.  You must complete this required course before enrolling in any core and applied research courses.  Moreover, you must earn at least a B- in Research and Writing Methods; otherwise, you must repeat the course.  In addition to enrolling in Research and Writing Methods during your first semester, you can also take one or more electives.  Courses fill up early, so please register as soon as possible.
  7. Read the AAP Code of Conduct (PDF). The AAP Code of Conduct covers academic misconduct, including plagiarism. All students are responsible for knowing and adhering to university policies. Please click here for additional policy information.
  8. Connect with the faculty and students in the MA in Communication program.  You have already been added to the communication student listserv; email to be removed or change your email address. Also, connect with us on our LinkedIn group page.
  9. Email your Communication advisor so that you can schedule an introductory advising session. (If you are pursuing the MA in Communication/MBA degree, note that you will have two advisors, namely your Communication advisor and someone else who will advise you on the MBA portion of your education.)
