Fredric Abramson
Fredric Abramson has been working for forty years in business, computer software development, management, bioscience, health care, and education. Abramson developed and implemented the first decision support computer system for health care in the early 1970s to control and reduce hospital-acquired infections. He founded a health and fitness center, the Association for Medical Emergency Informatics, Inc., United Software Associates, Inc. to bring innovative computer software to the American market from Europe, and the Fit America Research Center, to conduct research on weight loss. For over twenty-five years Abramson has provided business development and strategic planning services to a variety of organizations ranging from the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission and NASA's Spacelab project to a variety of retail, distribution and manufacturing businesses.
Abramson was Deputy Project Manager to Secretary Joseph Califano's (United States Department of Health Education and Welfare) effort to develop national policy on alcohol abuse. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of North Charles Hospital in Baltimore and the Permanent Planning Committee of the Maryland Hospital Association. He was a Moderator at the 1986 White House Conference on Small Business, and Chaired the Maryland Governor's Commission on Workers Compensation Laws for two years. He authored a white-paper on "Technology and Innovation Through the Year 2010 in Emergency Medical Services and Systems" policy paper for the United States Department of Transportation, and Chaired the Board of Directors for the Software Publishers Association Business Section.
Holding a Ph.D. in human genetics from the University of Michigan, a Master of Science in Management from MIT where he was an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow, Abramson also received his Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law. He is admitted to the bars of Maryland and the District of Columbia, and to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Patent Office.
Abramson brings his vast background and knowledge to his teaching of regulatory, management, legal, and financial issues in biotechnology.
