Activating your JHED Login and JHEM Account
ACCESS THE JOHNS HOPKINS PORTAL
The Johns Hopkins Enterprise Directory (JHED) is a university-wide online directory of students, faculty, and staff. Every individual is automatically assigned a JHED Login ID. However, if you are a new student or faculty, you will need to activate this Login ID (you only need to activate it once.) To find and activate your login ID is and activate it, go to the Johns Hopkins portal website (you can point your browser to my.jhu.edu or my.johnshopkins.edu to access the portal directly).
SEARCH BY NAME
In the upper right-hand corner, you will see a search field for entering all or part of a last name and first name. Enter your name and click “Go”.
NOTE FOR STUDENTS: It takes 48 hours for your name to appear in the system once you are admitted. If you recently received your admissions letter and you do not see your name, do not be alarmed. However, if you search for your name after 48 hours and your name does not appear, contact the Admissions Office at 202-452-1940 or firstname.lastname@example.org
NOTE FOR FACULTY: Faculty are assigned a JHED ID once they submit all documents to payroll. It takes 48 hours for your name to appear in the system once you are assigned a JHED ID. If you do not see your name listed in the JHED directory, please contact AAP payroll at 202-452-1916.
YOUR JHED ID
After you click “Go”, you should see a screen similar to the one below. (If more than one Hopkins affiliated person has the same name, you may have to choose the correct individual from a list of names.) The value listed next to the word “Login Id” is your unique Login ID. Jot this down and remember it for future use.
If you entered your name, clicked “Go”, and received no result, call the Help Desk at 410-516-HELP for assistance.
FIRST TIME LOGIN
Now that you have your Login ID, click on the “ Start here” link under “New visitor?”.
Enter your Login ID in the “First Time Login” field and click “Continue”.
CREATE YOUR PASSWORD
You will be asked to enter and confirm a password, as well as your date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy) and the last five digits of your social security number, which the system will use to authenticate your information. Once you fill in the values, click “Continue.”
Your JHED ID will now be active and you will be taken to your JHED account. You should see your JHED account management screen, which contains functional areas that you can manage, including changing your password, preferences, web-based email, etc.
If you do not see the management screen, click the “myJhed” tab in the upper left-hand corner. Your options will vary but your screen should look similar to the one below. When you access your JHED account in the future, go to the portal website at
http://my.johnshopkins.edu or http://my.jhu.edu and click the “Sign-in” link in the upper left-hand corner. If you access your portal account from a public computer, make sure to click the “Sign out” link at the top of the browser screen and then close your web browser to ensure against unauthorized access of your portal account.
