Disability Services for Students
Students with disabilities go through a formal process with the University to request accommodations. Students do not request accommodations for a disability directly through the faculty member. Students should initially contact AAPDisability@jhu.edu or 202-452-0983 four weeks prior to the beginning of the semester with their request for accommodations and with documentation from a qualified diagnostician.
The Director for Disability Services in the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Programs recommends accommodations if warranted. Susan Campbell will contact the faculty member about the accommodations needed and coordinate arrangements for any necessary accommodations. She will also inform the student of the agreed upon accommodations. It is recommended that the faculty member and the student discuss the accommodations at the beginning of the course. Students need to continue to formally request accommodations each semester/term they enroll.
Faculty will know that a student has an official accommodation because they will receive official documentation from Susan Campbell indicating what accommodations are necessary. Typical services might include extra time for tests, a note taker in the class, or interpreters in the classroom.
