About the Campus

Situated in the heart of Washington DC, The Johns Hopkins University Bernstein Offit Building at 1717 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. offers a dynamic learning environment that is conveniently located near everything that Washington has to offer. The Bernstein Offit Building also serves as the administrative office for Advanced Academic Programs. Admissions, Registration, Online, Information Technology, and Outreach staff are located at this center just two blocks south of Dupont Circle accessible by Metro. The center includes a Library Resource Center, faculty and student lounges, a large administrative/program management suite for faculty and staff, 16 classrooms or seminar rooms, two computer labs, and a large presentation room. The Washington Center provides an excellent learning environment for Advanced Academic Programs, and many Arts and Sciences Washington-based initiatives. Guests, faculty, staff, and students must sign in at the security guard's desk in the lobby, or show university ID.

Library Services

Library Resource Center at 1717 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. The center's staff facilitates interlibrary loan, reserve services, and a collection of program-specific reference materials, books, and videos. Students and faculty present the JCard for identification and borrowing privileges. The Library Resource Center has 10 workstations in the Electronic Research Room connecting to Eisenhower Library's Horizon WebPac, the Hopkins online catalog search tool, and a vast array of electronic databases, journals, and periodicals. Computers

Each of two computer labs has 24 workstations. Online services connecting students to the Web, university-wide electronic services, and various software applications are installed locally as needed for specific courses to provide the necessary technological support. One lab is open for Arts and Sciences students Monday through Thursday, noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday hours vary each semester and are posted at the center.

Bookstore

Textbooks for courses at the Washington Center are available from Reiter's Books. Books can be ordered from Reiter's Books by calling 301-294-7150 or by going online to www.jhutextbooks.com. Reiter's Books operates a temporary bookstorein one of the Hopkins buildings during late afternoon and early evening hours before and in the beginning of each semester/term. The location and specific hours of this temporary operation are posted at the center's front desk.

Food and Refreshments

The student lounge is located on the lower level and has snacks and refreshment machines. The lounge has tables and chairs for those who stop by any of the nearby eating establishments and wish to bring food to the center.

Security Services

At the Washington Center all students, faculty, and visitors are required to sign in with picture ID at the lobby desk or display a JCard or other university ID to the security guard. There is a phone on the fourth floor that connects directly to the lobby security guard in case of an emergency. Additionally, shuttle bus service is provided from 7:15 to 11:15 p.m from SAIS's Nitze Building at 1740 Massachusetts Avenue to the Dupont Circle Metro Station and any other destination within a one-mile radius. The shuttle bus is available in the fall and spring semesters every weekday but Friday. It does not operate during the summer term.

Parking

A reduced-fee parking arrangement has been in place with Central Parking on N Street between 17th and 18th streets. Students, faculty, and visitors may take advantage of the reduced fee from 5 to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Parking tickets must be stamped at the front desk in suite 104. Johns Hopkins University does not control the assessibility of this service.

Directions

From Baltimore and points north: Take I-95 to I-495 south (Washington Beltway). From 495, take exit 22B to 295 south, the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, to the New York Avenue exit. On New York Avenue (Route 50) stay in the right-hand lane toward downtown Washington. After about 8 miles bear right at Mount Vernon Square, onto Massachusetts Avenue. Take the underpass at Thomas Circle, circle around Scott Circle. The Rome Building is the third building on your right after you cleared Scott Circle.

Or, you can take I-95 to I-495 west (Washington Beltway) to exit 30, Route 29 south toward Silver Spring. Follow Route 29 through downtown Silver Spring until you reach the circle at the intersection of 16th Street, N.W.; turn left onto 16th Street. Take 16th Street to Scott Circle, bearing to the right to avoid the underpass. Turn right onto Massachusetts Avenue.

The Bernstein Offit Building is located at 1717 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, one block from the Dupont Circle (Red line) Metro station's south entrance.
